Stainless steel coils are widely used in mining equipment (including mining, oil and gas mining, deep-sea mineral mining, etc.) due to their excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and processability. The core is to solve the pain points of "high corrosion, high wear, and complex working conditions" in mining environments. Specific applications can be divided into the following categories according to equipment structure and function:
1、 Equipment main structure and protective components
Mining equipment is exposed to corrosive environments such as mineral slurry, groundwater, and oil and gas (including sulfides and chloride ions) for a long time, or comes into contact with hard materials such as ore and sand. Stainless steel coils become the core raw material for key structures/protective components through cutting, bending, welding, and other processing
1. Equipment casing and protective panel
Application scenarios: External shells of mining crushers, tunneling machines, screening machines, protective covers for oil and gas extraction wellhead devices, and external protective shells for deep-sea mining robots.
Function: The panel/shell formed by processing stainless steel coils (mostly made of 304 and 316L materials) can resist corrosion in humid mining environments, sulfide corrosion in oil and gas, and withstand the impact force of ore collisions, avoiding wear or corrosion damage to the equipment body.
2. Inner walls of silos and conveying channels
Application scenarios: Inner walls of ore storage silos in mines, lining of oil/slurry transportation pipelines in oil and gas mining, and inner walls of mineral collection compartments in deep-sea mining.
Function: During the mining process, materials such as ore and slurry will cause strong friction and chemical corrosion on the inner wall of the container (such as acidic substances in the slurry). The inner lining made of stainless steel coils (often wear-resistant stainless steel such as 201, 430, or corrosion-resistant 316L) can reduce material wear and prevent the inner wall from being corroded and peeled off, avoiding material pollution or channel blockage.
2、 Fluid transportation and processing system components
During the mining process, fluids such as water, slurry, crude oil, and drilling fluid need to be transported, which often contain corrosive media (such as chloride ions and organic acids). Stainless steel coils are the core material for manufacturing fluid transportation/processing components
1. Transport pipelines and fittings
Application scenarios: underground drainage pipes in mines, slurry conveying pipes, wellhead infusion pipes for oil and gas extraction, mud conveying pipes for drilling platforms, and seawater circulation pipes for deep-sea mining.
Function: Stainless steel coils are made into seamless pipes or welded pipes through the "rolling welding" process. Their corrosion resistance can prevent the pipeline from being corroded and leaked by fluids (such as rapid corrosion of ordinary steel pipes by seawater), and they can also withstand the pressure of fluid transportation with high strength (especially in high-pressure oil and gas extraction).
2. Components of filtration and separation device
Application scenarios: Filter screens for mining wastewater treatment, inner walls of separation tanks for crude oil dehydration in oil and gas extraction, mineral grading screens for deep-sea mining.
Function: The filter screen or separation component made of stainless steel coil by stamping and stretching is not only resistant to fluid corrosion, but also can achieve efficient separation of materials (such as ore particles and moisture) by controlling the aperture. It is easy to clean and has a long service life, suitable for the continuous operation needs of mining scenes.
3、 Precision transmission and control components
The transmission and control components of mining equipment require high precision, corrosion resistance, and stability of materials. Stainless steel coils (mostly thin and high-precision coils) are important raw materials for such components
1. Transmission system cover and bracket
Application scenarios: Gearbox covers for mining excavators and loaders, transmission link protective shells for oil and gas extraction pumping units, and motor brackets for deep-sea mining equipment.
Function: A shield/bracket made by bending and stamping thin specification stainless steel coils (such as 304 coils with a thickness of 0.5-3mm), which is lightweight and corrosion-resistant, can protect transmission components from mineral dust and water vapor erosion, and ensure that transmission accuracy is not affected by external environment.
2. Control box and dashboard casing
Application scenarios: Electrical control boxes for mining equipment, pressure/temperature instrument panel housings, and underwater control cabinet housings for deep-sea mining.
Function: The outer shell of stainless steel coil processing has excellent sealing and corrosion resistance, which can isolate dust from mines, flammable and explosive gases from oil and gas, and high-pressure seawater from deep sea, protect the normal operation of internal precision electrical components (such as sensors and controllers), and avoid equipment failures caused by environmental interference.
4、 Special components for special working conditions (taking deep-sea mining as an example)
The mining environment for deep-sea minerals (such as polymetallic nodules) combines high pressure, low temperature, and high salt (seawater), with higher requirements for material corrosion resistance and strength. The application of stainless steel coils (mainly ultra corrosion-resistant 316L and duplex stainless steel coils) is more targeted:
The buoyancy adjustment cabin wall of deep-sea mining robots: The cabin wall is made of welded stainless steel coils and needs to withstand both deep-sea high pressure (tens of MPa pressure corresponding to thousands of meters of water depth) and seawater corrosion, ensuring that the buoyancy adjustment medium (such as oil and water) inside the cabin does not leak and maintaining the stability of the robot's posture;
Mineral lifting pipe lining: Deep sea minerals are transported to the sea surface through the lifting pipe. The pipe lining is made of stainless steel coil processing, which can resist long-term seawater erosion and mineral particle wear, avoiding mineral leakage or seawater backflow caused by corrosion perforation of the lifting pipe.
